Though he is deservedly well-known for his expertise in producing sparkling wines, Michael Crus produces a hell of a red, too. This blend is about half Valdiguie, a curious French variety that was planted for years in CA as "Gamay." However, in this wine the case of mistaken identity is understandable. This is a bright, crunchy, red-fruited wine with hints of pepper and smoky minerality. A perfect springtime red.
