Terrassen Cellars Gamay Noir 2018

Located in the Finger Lakes region of NY, Terrassen is a new project by Nomad Hotel wine director, Thomas Pastuszak, and his wife Jessica Brown. Only 3 barrels were made of this Gamay souced from a 20 year-old vineyard of Beaujolais cuttings on the West Side of Cayuga Lake. The harves was followeed by gentle stomping (yep, by foot!) and whole cluster, partial Carbonic, maceration. Fermented half & half with indigenous yeasts and a Burgundy yeast for nearly 2 months in open-top fermenters, then moved to old barrique for malolactic fermentation and, finally, bottled unfined and unfiltered. Medium-bodied, this wine is silky, earthy, juicy and vegetal all at once, with just a touch of natural funk. Absolutely (and surprisingly) well-balanced and completely delicious.
