Wahaka Reposado Mezcal con Gustano

You know how in older movies, Hollywood likes to portray anyone who is drinking in Mexico as drinking a clear liquor with a worm in the bottle? Well that's actually a thing! Mezcal "con Gustano" means that it bears the infamous larva of the Maguey worm, whom feeds off of Agave. While there are many theories of its origin and meaning (as is often the case when it comes to anything alcohol-related), it is often claimed as everything from a marketing tool to a token of good fortune for the "lucky" individual that takes that final shot. Wahaka is the only Oaxacan Mezcal on the international market to boast such a Gusano, and the flavor of the Mezcal is not altered as a result of its inclusion. This is a unique release that is rested from 4-6 months in American oak before bottling. The nose is floral and smoky, offering notes of spicy Agave and tobacco. On the smooth, balanced palate, there are notes o froasted Agave, vanilla, butterscotch, oak spice and a last minute tinge of smoke. The dry, medium finish is commanded by grassy and subtle vegetal notes, citrus peel, a hint of almond, and a wisp of smoke to close it all out. A beautiful expression for those who like to simply sip their Mezcal. And don't fear the worm! *Spirits available for in-store pickup & local delivery. For NY state shipping, call the shop directly.
