Ronchi di Cialla "Ciallabianco" 1996

This might be a great introduction to the full-bodied whites of Italy, for those who have found themselves always leaning toward the fuller Californian whites but looking to expand their liquid horizons to the East. Ronchi Di Cialla is certified as biodiversity friendly by the World Biodiversity Association, and they remain committed to using natural practices with minimal interference when possible, having been one of the first winemakers to adopt integrated agriculture with low environmental impact. Pruning is carried out with the utmost care and fungicide treatments are tightly controlled. Working with relatively low yields of 115,000 bottles per year as dictated by the Cialla Cru, wine making is carried out using natural methods with as little interference as possible. In the glass, this juice is a bright golden color with bountiful aromas of caramel, butterscotch, candied fruit and dried apricot. The mouthfeel is fully round and has a structure of well-balanced acidity, but still remains delicate and elegant, with a unique character about it. Notes of fresh pears, golden apples and overripe plum bring this intriguing wine to a lingering close.
