Maurin Quina

The classic, mischievous green devil that adorns the front label is really what this liqueur is known for, more than anything. But the balanced, bittersweet aperitif inside is as entrancing as the label itself. The Maurin Quina dates back to the late 1800s and was once banned by the French government for the association of the green devil with the "green fairy" which iconically denoted Absinthe. Made from a maceration of cherries, quinine, and bitter almonds in noble French wine, then fortified with cherry Brandy, the taste here is a bit like cherry marzipan. Enjoy on the rocks or as a fruitier alternative to Aperol or Campari for a change of pace in your next cocktail.
