Fortaleza Tequila is a highly acclaimed, artisanal brand from the town of Tequila in Jalisco, Mexico, known for its traditional, additive-free production, using stone ovens and tahona crushing for complex flavors of cooked agave, citrus, and earth, making it a favorite among connoisseurs despite its limited supply due to high demand and small-scale methods. Fans love its purity, silky texture, and signature peppery finish. Each bottle is individually hand-blown in Mexico, as a result, each one is a tiny bit different. Not only do they produce tequila with traditional methods, but also use bottles the way they were made 150 years ago as well. Launched in 2005, they are relatively new to the market, but have over 150 years of history behind the brand. The agave that grows around the distillery are very sweet and mineral-rich, and have a lot to do with the signature aromas and flavors inside of Fortaleza tequila. Distilled twice in traditional copper pot stills, these stills have been in place since the distillery was built more than 100 years ago, and they bring a certain amount of “magic” to the process. 7 months in barrel, aromas of citrus, caramel, butter, cooked agave, and sage are the beginning of a pleasingly balanced and very unique tasting experience. It has it’s own distinct character. Flavors include cooked agave, citrus, vanilla, apple, earth, and cinnamon. The finish is long and rich, delicately spicy, and it has an oily texture that make this a joy to drink.
