Top Ten Wines Under $15
Arrowhead Spring Vineyards Vidal Blanc Ice Wine 2012
Flavors of juicy peaches, ripe apricots, honey, lavender, thyme and hay. The intense concentration of flavors are joined by a rich sweetness that is balanced by fabulous acidity.
Broadbent Madeira Boal 10 Year
A nose of molasses and herbs with a subdued walnut nuttiness. The full, but not overly rich or sweet palate shows hints of orange zest and toffee. A wonderful way to end a meal, paired with a cheese plate.
Carussin Passito di Barbera "Respiro di Vigna" 500ml
This rare Barbera Passito is just divine. The bright acidity and beautiful red fruit are perfectly matched for chocolate. The quantity of grapes is so small that pressing is manual. Biodynamic.
Causse Marines Gaillac Doux "Grain de Folie" 2012
A terrific sweet wine from Southwest France using indigenous grapes. Great acidity which holds together flavors of ripe apricot, orange blossom, and honey. Perfect pairing for fruit desserts, white cake, or salty cheese.
Dashe Late Harvest Zinfandel 2012
Intense, vibrant red fruit—wild cherry, strawberry, black raspberry—mixed with darker flavors of black currant, plum, and hints of chocolate and vanilla. Nice acidity balances this sweet, but not cloying, treat.
Left Foot Charley "Cinnamon Girl" Cider
Traverse City's Left Foot Charley does some wild ciders, and this off-dry one based on Northern Spy and Golden Delicious apples is super cool. Several varieties of cinnamon are blended in this delicious dessert sipper.
Palacio de Canedo Limonada
An insanely delicious sweet wine, made similarly to sangria. Macerated with sugared fruits and lemon, resulting in juicy, sweet flavors of berries with a refreshing citrus zing.
Paolo Bea Sagrantino di Montefalco Passito 2003
Quite possibly the best dessert wine in Italy. Dried Sagrantino grapes provide intense tannin that off set the unctuous texture and deep berry flavors. A revelation with a hard salty cheese.
Quinta do Popa Vinho Doce 2010
Made from a blend of 21 grape varietals from vineyards over 60 years old, grown on the terraces of the High Douro. A young wine, with lower alcohol, making a delightful aperitif.
Ronco dei Tassi Picolit 2009
This is a special little gem of a dessert wine, made from the rare and extremely difficult to cultivate Piccolit grape. Delicate and complex, with notes of honey, flowers, apricots and orange peel.
